Sustainable poverty alleviation requires more than microfinance access; it requires financial literacy, equitable household decision-making, and long-term vision. Through the Gender Action Learning System (GALS) implemented across rural upazilas like Tarash, GKS Foundation is helping rural women break systemic barriers and become self-reliant micro-entrepreneurs.

Under the GALS methodology, participants draft five-year personal and business roadmaps using visual tracking diaries. Instead of navigating financial challenges alone, both husbands and wives gather in open courtyard sessions to map income streams, divide care work, and plan shared investments.

The ripple effects in project villages are tangible:

  • Direct Asset Ownership: Over 90% of participating women have successfully registered assets, such as dairy cattle, high-yield poultry sheds, tailoring equipment, or leasehold plots, under their own names.
  • Diversified Incomes: Micro-credit loans are actively channeled into multi-season initiatives, including climate-smart vegetable cultivation, homestead fisheries, and rural retail trade.
  • Shared Decision-Making: Cooperative budgeting has significantly lowered household friction, eradicated domestic vulnerability, and granted women a respected voice in community trade committees.

When women manage capital and steer family planning as equal partners, entire villages transition from subsistence to lasting solvency.
