Overview:
GKS works to alleviate extreme poverty and chronic hunger among smallholders, marginal farmers, indigenous groups, and riverine char dwellers across the northern floodplains. This sector integrates inclusive microfinance, agricultural market systems, and climate-adaptive food production.
Core Objectives:
To secure year-round household food intake, generate sustainable self-employment, improve smallholder agricultural productivity, and strengthen value chains linking rural producers to input dealers and broader markets.
Key Interventions & Activities:
- Microfinance & Enterprise Lending: Providing flexible credit, savings schemes, and enterprise loans for poultry/livestock rearing (cattle, goats, sheep), fish farming, horticulture, and cottage industries.
- Climate-Smart Agriculture: Training local producers and retailers in high-yield varieties, maize, and sweet gourd farming in riverine char soils.
- Homestead Nutrition & Gardening: Establishing vegetable nurseries, seed preservation methods, and small-scale poultry farming to improve household nutrition and maternal-child health.
Market Linkages & Lead Firm Partnerships: Brokering agreements with agricultural firms and local dealers to expand smallholder access to quality agricultural inputs and modern farming technologies.
